Since the launch of the first health and wellness centre in April last year only 6193 have been set up
In the first three quarters of the 2018-19 financial year, the only 6193 health and wellness centres were set up. At this rate, India could end up taking 19 years to set up the 1,53,000 health and wellness centres that finance minister Arun Jaitley announced in his Budget speech last year.
The target for 2018-19 was to set up 10,000 health and wellness centres. Health and wellness centres are the lesser known arm of NDA government’s flagship Ayushman Bharat programme. The centres that will promote health and work towards disease prevention have been overshadowed by the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), under which an annual health cover of Rs 5 lakh will be given to 10.74 crore families. The first health and wellness centre was inaugurated by prime minister Narendra Modi in Bijapur in Chhattisgarh in April last year.

Health and wellness centres will provide comprehensive maternal health care services at sites equipped to service as “delivery point”, neonatal and infant health care services, childhood and adolescent health care, contraceptive services, reproductive health care, management of communicable diseases, screening and comprehensive management of non-communicable diseases, basic ophthalmic care services, basic ENT care, screening and basic management of mental health ailments, basic dental health and geriatric health care.
The tardy progress of health and wellness centres is a cause of concern because the world over prevention is a key element of universal health coverage. Prevention helps preempt catastrophic health expenditures that cause impoverishment of large swathes of India’s population every year.

Herpes Virus is a terrible virus, if not for my Husband and the help of the great Dr. Ehi my life would have been a mess!
