The Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID2019) has made millions of Indians jittery about flu symptoms, in what unfortunately happens to be flu season. While testing for the virus is free in government hospitals, the guidelines are extremely stringent and many would probably not qualify.
Here’s the better news.
There are currently 29 private testing laboratories across the country where you can go and do your tests, albeit for a price and with the prescription of a registered medical practitioner. The government has set a ceiling of Rs 4500 for the tests – Rs 1500 for the screening test and Rs 3000 for the confirmation.
In government hospitals, only limited people are being tested. These are – all hospitalised patients with severe acute respiratory infections, including pneumonia even if they do not have any history, symptomatic people with travel or contact history and health workers with symptoms.
