Government hospital gets reimbursed for the birth of a baby girl by Caesarean section

A labourer from Karnal district of Haryana has become the first beneficiary of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY).

Amit Kumar’s daughter Karishma was born in August 17 at the Kalpana Chawla Government Hospital in Karnal. The hospital has been reimbursed Rs 9000 for the delivery by Caesarean section. PMJAY will be officially rolled out on September 25, the birthday of RSS idealogue Deen Dayal Upadhyay. However Haryana has started pilots in 26 hospitals across the state. Pilots for PMJAY were announced by prime minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech last month.

29 states have agreed to be on board PMJAY under which an annual health cover of Rs 5 lakh to 10.74 crore families

Ayushman Bharat deputy CEO Dr Dinesh Arora tweeted: “First claim raised under #AyushmanBharat. A baby girl is born through caesarean section at Kalpana Chawla Hospital in Haryana. Claim of RS 9000 paid to the hospital by Ayushman Bharat- Haryana. @AyushmanNHA welcomes the young angel! @cmohry”. CEO Dr Indu Bhusan responded with a “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” tagging the twitter handle of the prime minister’s office. Karishma will be known as Ayushman Bharat baby.

Pilots have been started or are about to start in 106 districts across the country in preparation for a nationwide rollout. As of now 29 states have agreed to be on board the ambitious health insurance/assurance programme under which an annual health cover of Rs 5 lakh to 10.74 crore families. Eligibility will be decided on the basis of data from the socioeconomic caste census 2011.
