A health ministry official explained: “This is has been done to ensure that precious medical seats are not wasted. As it is the country is short of trained doctors, it is a dreadful wastage if we cannot even fill the seats that are there. By increasing the pool of students we would increase our chances of filling the seats. We had sent the proposal to the MCI and they agreed to it.”
Referring to the decision, J P Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare said that all efforts are being made to fill up the PG seats. “This is a significant step towards strengthening medical sector and indicates the priority given by the government to the health sector. We are making sure that there is adequate manpower for providing quality health services,” Nadda added.
