Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is the first step to universal health coverage

Come Sunday and India will take a giant leap towards providing accessible and affordable healthcare to the aam aadmi.

Prime minister Narendra Modi will launch the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

More than 50 crore people will be covered under the scheme.

Here’s all you need to know:

• PMJAY will provide a cover of up to Rs. 5 lakhs per family per year, for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization

• Over 10.74 crore vulnerable entitled families (approximately 50 crore beneficiaries) will be eligible for these benefits.

• It is cashless and paperless at the point of contact

 The first Health and Wellness Centre was launched by the Prime Minister at Jangla, Bijapur, Chhatisgarh on 14th April 2018.

• PMJAY is the first step towards universal health coverage

NDA government’s umbrella health programme Ayushman Bharat comprises two components: PMJAY and creation of 1,50,000 Health and Wellness Centres. Of these approximately 2500 are currently in place.

These centres will provide Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC), covering both maternal and child health services and non-communicable diseases. This includes free essential drugs and diagnostic services.

The first Health and Wellness Centre was launched by the Prime Minister at Jangla, Bijapur, Chhatisgarh on 14th April 2018.

PMJAY cover will include 1350 procedures covering pre and post hospitalization, diagnostics, medicines etc. There is full National portability which means beneficiaries belonging to one state can be treated anywhere else in the country.
