Yesterday once more: J P Nadda, MoSes take charge at ministry for health and family welfare

Both Nadda and MoS Anupriya Patel are veterans at Nirman Bhawan; Prataprao Jadhav is a new face as MoS

BJP President J P Nadda took charge on Tuesday as the Union minister for health and family welfare along with the two ministers of state Anupriya Patel and Prataprao Jadhav. Both Nadda and Patel are veterans in the ministry and have worked there during the second term of prime minister Modi. Nadda and Patel also hold charge in the same capacities of the ministry of chemicals and fertilisers which also includes the department of pharmaceuticals.

 J P Nadda entered politics in 1975.  During the Lok Sabha Polls in 1989, he was assigned a major responsibility as election in-charge of the BJP’s youth wing. Later, he fought Assembly elections from his home state Himachal Pradesh and won three times. He has been a Cabinet Minister in Himachal Pradesh. He also shouldered the responsibilities of BJP National General Secretary and Member Secretary of BJP Parliamentary Board. He held the position of Union Health Minister from Nov 2014 to May 2019.

After taking charge Nadda also interacted with senior officials of the Union Health Ministry and he was briefed about the ongoing projects. The Union Minister was received by senior officials of the ministry including Apurva Chandra, Union Health Secretary and Roli Singh, Additional Secretary (Health). 

Anupriya Patel was elected to the Lok Sabha from the constituency of Mirzapur in 2014, 2019 and again in 2024. She was the Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare from July 2016 to May 2019 and Union MoS in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry from July 2021 to June 2024.Patel has served in various capacities, from being a Member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly to her recent role as Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Prataprao Jadhav took over the charge as the Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. He also holds the portfolio of the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Ayush.
