Women’s health, digital public goods on India’s plate at World Health Assembly

India will showcase its health model at the upcoming World Health Assembly

The theme of the event which will go on from May 27 to June 1 is “All For Health, Health For All”

India will hold three key events – on women and adolescent health, on digital health public goods and one to showcase the country’s health journey – at the World Health Assembly. · Committee A chaired by India will facilitate discussion on various programmatic topics covering Universal Health Coverage, Public Health Emergency preparedness and response, antimicrobial resistance, climate change, sustainable financing for WHO. 

Union health secretary Apurva Chandra will lead the Indian delegation to the event that will be held in Geneva from May 27 to June 1.   The theme for this year’s WHA is “All for Health, Health for All”. Sessions will be held in three main segments – Plenary, Committee A and Committee B.  At least 14 side events and multiple strategic roundtables are being organized on the sidelines of WHA focusing on diverse health topics like Antimicrobial resistance (AMR), Climate and Health, Maternal and Child Health, Digital Health where Indian delegation along with delegation from countries all over the world will share thoughts on the improvement and way forward for the global health architecture.

On 27th May, India will host a  high level working lunch in which the theme of  “Advancing Health and Well-being of Billions in WHO South-East Asia Region” will be discussed in collaboration with WHO SEARO. The objective is to  showcase the success of India’s health journey and to strategize concerted actions of Member States, WHO and Partners in addressing key public health agenda in SEA Region.  On 28th May, a side event “Digital Health Public Goods in Addressing Social Determinants of Health” is being organized in collaboration with Australia, Japan and USA at Permanent Mission Geneva  to showcase the digital health transformation in India through the innovative digital public goods and its emergence as a lighthouse country voicing the global south. 

On 29th May, a side event on Invest in What Matters: Making the case for Women’s, Children’s & Adolescent Health and  Well-being is being organized in collaboration with Norway, UNICEF, UNFPA and PMNCH to discuss key opportunities for investment in maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health and well-being  and advocate for sustainable investment.

India is leading and supporting the Regional One Voice for the South East Asia region advocating for Well-being and Health Promotion, Social Determinants of Health, Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition and Economics and Health for all.
