The baby was born at East Singbhum Hospital
When Poonam Mahto of Jharkhand’s Basurda Village went into labor and delivered a baby girl at 3.23 pm on Sunday she did not know that the girl was destined for greatness.
Right at birth.
Because just 90 minutes ago prime minister Narendra Modi had launched the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana; that made Poonam the first beneficiary of the scheme post launch. Her yet unnamed baby delivered by Dr Veena Singh at East Singbhum Hospital, had made history.
The hospital as per rates notified by the National Health Agency has raised a claim of Rs 18500 for the Caesarean delivery
That meant she has made a place for herself as an Ayushman Bharat Baby alongside Karishma the Ayushman Bharat baby of Haryana. Karishma’s parents are the first beneficiaries of the world’s largest government health insurance programme. Karishma was born in Karnal on August 17 two days after PMJAY was named so by prime minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech.
PMJAY started on Sunday, in 445 dstricts of the country  across 26 states. It would cover a population of 9.4 crore families. The total number of families that will be entitled to the programme if all states are on board is 10.74 crore.
Poonam’s husband 25-year-old Sikander works as a labourer in a local factory. Poonam’s gold card number is PO8QVRKDF. A gold card means a person has been verified for the scheme and is the identity card for the purposes of PMJAY.
